What is fulfillment and why is it important for online stores?

What is Fulfillment? Fulfillment is the process of managing all orders in an e-commerce business, from the moment a customer places an order on the website or online platform until the product is delivered to the customer, including the return process. Simply put, it encompasses every step that occurs "back-end" of an online store, from receiving orders, picking products, packing, shipping, and tracking packages. All of this is collectively called Order Fulfillment. What are the steps in a Fulfillment system? A Fulfillment system consists of six main interconnected steps: 1. Receiving: The first step is receiving goods from suppliers or factories and storing them in the warehouse. This involves counting, checking quality, and accurately recording the information in the system. 2. Warehousing: Received goods are systematically stored in the warehouse or Fulfillment Center, categorized by type, size, or sales frequency for easy and quick retrieval. 3. Order Processing: When a customer places an order, the system receives the order and processes it automatically, checking stock and confirming payment. And send the order to the warehouse team to prepare for shipment. 4. Picking and Packing: The team will pick the items according to the order list, check for accuracy, and then neatly pack them, attaching the shipping label and necessary documents. 5. Shipping: The packed goods will be handed over to the shipping service provider, such as Kerry Express, Flash Express, or Thailand Post, for delivery to the customer. 6. Returns Processing: If the customer wants to return or exchange the product, the Fulfillment system will support the return process, check the condition of the product, and process a refund or send a new product.
